Dr. Jack, if I may chip in, please don’t let yourself to be dragged into the sandpit again with questions like “are you *******?” If it wasn’t pathetic it would be funny. Save your energy for things worth your while. Lot’s of intelligent people on this blog appreciate your input. It’s good that people don’t buy your ideas and your style wholesale. If they did, it would be worrying. I think you don’t need followers but partners in discussion. And you got plenty here, which is great in my view. I come here for the comments as much as for your stuff. Therefore people starting juvenile exchanges like “ball is in your court, Jack” should not be encouraged. They make the weed that’s overgrowing the blog.

@William thanks. I think the next chapter of the blog is going to really open some eyes.

Well, I am a quiet guy but I need to speak here.
I am here for a reason and that’s to get back to my healthy life again. I trust Jack fully. I have no reason not to he is much more intelligent than certain bloggers. I don’t give a flying F about some Picture or timing of certain posts, he was being hacked or messed with at these times. You can call him a narcissist and pick apart his posts and writings but he is the first to tell you he plugs away and if there are mistakes just read through them.

As for Weila Smith aka V, She was never a true part of this community and ever since her first writings she has had zero credibility with me.
I was on free the animal today getting a full perspective on all this and after reading through the attacks, Richards rant was just that nothing but hearsay. At most miscommunications. The one thing I don’t understand is if your going to attack someone in that manner at the very least pick up the phone when he is calling you on it. That’s where his argument lost me.
So V, don’t let the door hit you in your ass. I for one don’t want you back here, when the dust settles be under it.

Hi Jack: I’m very sad about what has happened because I have experienced so many benefits from your work. I asked you yesterday about my calcitic and inflamed tendon. Pain was over the top. Following your reply, I have kept the shoulder under ice or under water since then. Two days ago, the pain was such that I didn’t know how I was going to get through. Today pain is down to where I can tolerate it with some aspirin. Riversedge’s journal and comments have also been very inspirational. Today I thought a lot about what this would have been like had I not known about and trusted CT because of your advice and the community of shared experience. We’re a community of a gazillion n=1 studies, all self-motivated and responsible for our own outcomes, but with your information and support. Before I follow any of your suggestions, I always asked myself “Can this hurt me?” Everything–Leptin Rx, CT, paleo keto diet–control of artificial light–seems pretty benign, appears easy to control and stop if there are bad effects. Results have been wonderful. Please don’t get discouraged by ugly, narrow-spirited, neolithic souls. Your self-confidence, flamboyance, and showmanship are part of the message and they’re as important as the content itself.

    Dr Kruse,

You have helped me more than any (non emergency room!) doctor in years. And you have done it for free, through your writings and generosity of time and spirit in answering comments and questions from the community. I know how much a neurosurgeon bills literally thousands of dollars an an hour in surgery so I am especially grateful to have someone like you volunteering for the community like that.

Because of your optimal labs posting that I actually had to fight with my doctor to run I discovered I have an autoimmune condition. Your insights did for me what my PCP would not normally do. And for that I am eternally grateful. By identifying this underlying condition you may have given me a route to extended my life (and telomeres!)

Your optimal supplement blogprovided me with supplements that help me feel much better. Before you I never even heard of K2, and now this may have saved many in my family from osteoporosis.

I have close family members with cancer and your post on what to do when cancer hits, was especially useful.

You often have a gift for making complicated things clear and in doing so you save lives in the process. You give and you give. Thank you. Don’t forget how truely appreciated this is.

I can separate a man’s ideas, from his personal “stuff.” But sometimes it is a challenge. And you have some pretty big ideas my friend.

What I want to convey to you, and this comes out of a place of love, affection and admiration… some of your “stuff”– true or not– makes it harder to get your message out and for others to believe the messenger. This is especially important when the science is unclear.

I personally couldn’t care less about shoulder/schmolder pics… bonzo/gonzo names. Who cares? But what I do care about truthfulness, honesty and how it relates to the process of scientific testing and inquiry.

And when someone says one thing about their “stuff”, and then we find “bongo” evidence like below that suggests otherwise, it can gives us pause:

We all have many things we regret and kick ourselves for doing. We are human. We all fall short sometime. It is how we get up that defines us.

I still believe in you and your mission. If only half of what you theorize has truth to it, you can save many lives and reduce much suffering.

Because something tells me Dr. Kruse would say that distractions are not “optimal.” So lets dust off, be honest with ourselves + others and put a laser focus on the goal and get to work. Factor X awaits!

    Warmly— I mean… coldy,

Hello, I have a question that is a little out there but I’m not having any luck searching for alternatives.

We just found out my son has a Vascular Malformation in his brain and will be seeing a neurosurgeon with probable brain surgery to resolve the issue. He is 18 and in awesome health otherwise. I was just wondering if there were any alternatives for him or if you have anything you would recommend for me to read. He has had severe headaches and last night had a seizure which lead to a CT scan which lead to the diagnoses.

Please send me in the right direction for my research. Thanks!

    • Jack May 18, 2012 at 12:21 pm - Reply

@Briana there are several options for AVM’s these days but it depends upon your son’s Spetzler Grade. Do you know what it is? It might be listed on his MRI’s or on the notes from the radiologist. Surgery, Gamma Knife, and endovasculare treatments are all possible now. Sometimes even combination therapy is also possible to reduce the risks.

  13. briana jeffers May 18, 2012 at 12:29 pm - Reply

Thanks for the quick answer. He has only had a CT scan but a local neuro read it and said it was AVM and wanted him to schedule an appt. I need to have him request copies of his test results. We are in New Mexico and he will see someone at UNM after we jump through the hoops for our insurance company since he chose to leave the hospital before having an MRI. I’m just trying to find out what restrictions this will put on his options in life and if he might have a choice besides surgery.

    Thanks again for your help!

@Briana if you’re in NM go to AZ to Barrow Neurological Institute. This Is where Robert Spetzler works and he is the world expert in AVM’s

@Jack, a question about CT: I got one of the IR non-contact thermometers you recommend, and I take skin temp. a few places on my body after my 30 minute morning cold soak. The readings tend to be lower than the water temperature (I’m guessing that’s because of evaporative cooling). Anyway, are we shooting for a 50 to 55 deg. skin temp., or water temp? Today I got a 55 deg. skin temp after soaking in 65 deg. water for 30 min. What guidelines do you use time/temperature to get and stay cold adapted? Thanks.

PS Thank you for taking the high road and ignoring all the juvenile ad hominem nonsense in the paleo world. This ought to be strictly about the science and nothing else.

i don’t need you to believe in me. i only need to believe in jack kruse. i only care about believing in him. jack, what is so bad about being ********? your comcast email with that name in it is already on fta. scrolling down the list of docs at the “nerve” conference where i saw the email is a guy i went to high school and college with. it’s a small world after all.

we all want better health. if you people have gotten it from jack, just say thank you to him and ignore me. but i can’t listen to someone who doesn’t want to acknowledge that he is ******. what’s wrong with *******?

Edit by me Dr. K: That email is attributed to me but it is not mine but is related to someone in my family V. That is all I can say. People who do their consults with me know my two emails and this is not mine.

@Riversedge. Dont hate on V……I get why she is dissappointed. What I dont get is why this some how diminishes what she has gotten here. does something I said in 2002 or 2003 negate what I said to you in 2012? Have I let you down here myself?

@riversedge- the door didn’t hit me on the butt yet cuz jack is still allowing me here.

@V you’re here and that means you might find some value. If you want to stir the pot stir it. When you don’t understand the context of 2002, 2003, 2009 comments it looks bad……but guess what. My present actions tell you something too…….What it tells you is up to you. People will judge you based upon what you do for them. I can only control what I can. I can’t control others opinions. If you don’t like it…….go read another site and ignore me. I have a job to do for people who want it. Before, I was not looking to that job…..if you want to judge by the past……do so. If you think I am now focusing in on helping people than you will stick around. Dealers choice.

@ V youre welcome if you want to be here always………I know people change. On my opening Paleo Fx speech I told people just how I came to change. What I was before that was not how I am now. If you want to judge me by my past…… so. The haters will hate and those who are curious will wonder why I am doing what I am now………The opening speech tells you a lot about me. I make no apologies………

  17. Lanie May 18, 2012 at 6:38 pm - Reply

Jack, I just want to thank you for all you’ve done for me so far. I’m more of a lurker around your blog than a writer, and I bet there are a lot of us that you don’t even realize you’ve helped. I used to eat compulsively. Since starting the Leptin Rx in February, I don’t anymore. I used to be too tired after work to play with my daughter. Since following your advice, I have energy. My relationship with my husband is better, now that my hormonal problems are being addressed. My labs are improving and I’m no longer taking prescription meds.

I think you’re a little nuts, but I also think you’re a genius. Thank you for sharing what you know with the world. No one said this would be easy, but it sure as hell is important. Thank you.

    • Jack May 18, 2012 at 7:05 pm - Reply

@Lanie Thanks……you are why I do this……7 yrs ago I would never have done this. I am a different animal now. I am not crazy or nuts. I fiercely independent thinker and I don’t conform to most rules. I like to think for myself and differently than most people. That can cause you issues in a world that judges people on means, medians, and averages, and polls. People who choose to live in the tail of life’s curve’s have to accept the adversity…….I do. I do not run from it.

i am not disappointed and you have not let me down. Thanks for your generous teaching. I remember listening to Dr. Laura and she would go on and on about how ppl don’t (can’t, won’t) change 99% of the time. But I had practiced changing myself and new I could. I got rid (almost completely) the shameful act of gossip. People can “evolve” and become better. I read those old sport related comments posted at FTA and thought they represented your leisure time thinking then and it was what is was. That’s not now. Now you are willing and taking the time to show us strangers something that you discovered and help us regain our health. Thank you.

    • Jack May 18, 2012 at 9:06 pm - Reply

@Melinda in my old life I did some pretty cool things that people wanted info on……..and they did not get what they wanted. I gave what I could. Those who did not get what they wanted bitched and moaned………if that makes me a bad person……..I will wear that scarlet letter. What happened on FB I can reconstruct now because I know how it occurred now. A few days ago I could not explain it. That breach worried me because I thought incorrectly it was tied to my LCC incident. I found out it was not and it was a relief. I shored up the security and I move on. I cant please the mob……..but I can please me and those who think I may offer some value. That is who I choose to focus upon.

I can’t believe all that has happened in the last few weeks with you Dr.K. (But I do believe it’s all perfect).

All I can say is thank you — when I smashed my finger in a farming accident and posted on your site you responded immediately. I took your advice and my finger has healed amazingly quickly and without any pain (I am back to work planting thousands of plants by hand).

When my mother-in-law fell two weeks ago, I applied your same advice and she too, at 90 years old, is doing really well with little pain and bruising. Even your detractors are filling up their tubs with cold water and ice.

My motto in life (from the words of a very great man) is:

See the job. Do the job. Stay out of the misery.

@Riversedge……I know it…….but there is enough hate on the net…….I want our community to be a place that works by different rules. You come here to get out of the storm…….when your broken and not well I want people to come……..if I am selling them BS they will leave soon enough. But you wont know unless you land here and see what we really are about.

Your response to all of this is refreshing. In the free market of ideas, you’ve done nothing more than offer your opinion on what it takes to live an optimal life. The moment you start using the power of the State to enforce mandatory cold sessions and keto-paleo diets for all, I’ll stop weighing the value of your insights against the other voices in the community.

Or, if I individually decide you’re full of BS, as you pointed out above, I can leave.

Your recent experiences are an example of why, “if passion drives, reason must hold the reins.” Unfortunately too many people fail to practice the latter.

More importantly, most people commenting/blogging about recent events can’t, with any absolute confidence, affirm or deny the validity of any claim made by you or about you — whether it’s about CT, leptin, facebook hacks, charlatan, etc.

I’d actually argue that every attack, defense, and opinion expressed about you and for you, are essentially immaterial.

I argue the pointlessness of it all. I don’t see how any of it has any bearing upon practice. Your community of support and success stories are evidence enough that the ‘teaching’ is what matters most.

Your site, your social media accounts, your contributions to other blogs — nobody is coerced to read them or apply your theories to practice.

We must continue to encourage the free exchange of ideas and debate them on their merit rather than resort to ad hominen attacks that divide the community.

A new study recently found that it only takes 10% of a population to change a majority opinion. At a higher level, the paleo/ancestral movement must remember it’s up against Goliath, not Jack Kruse. At a more fractal level, I think Jack is evidence of this phenomenon in action. His theories started as a minority paradigm in a minority movement. But now try to frequent popular paleo blogs and NOT find something about CT or Jack Kruse.

At the end of the day, sound ideas and objective results will triumph over histrionics and ad hominen attacks.

“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.” (research about minority tipping point)

And now back to your regular CT programming…

Quick question regarding CT and the lymphatic system. I’ve been eating keto-paleo for the most part these past couple months and cold adapting.

Like everyone, I’ve had stages of ‘rockstar’ and stages of detox/toxic dumping.

I notice soreness in certain lymph node areas (throat, knee, spleen) along with occasional ‘slight’ fluid accumulation around my ankles.

This hasn’t been a regular occurrence, and I often feel great. But is it possible that with CT, I’ve released too many accumulated toxins and it’s too much for my system? Is this something you just need to fight through or are there steps to take to remedy it.
